Oh Jen Lancaster, a Jen and a narcissist after my own heart.

I stand by my assertion that she's funnier when things happen to her, not when she makes things happen - this book is a mix of both. Though, I, sheepishly, admit I needed to hear some of her life lessons (being a grown-up sucks y'all).

Funny, sometimes touching and occasionally annoying. I'm left wanting to read more of her work which is a good thing! Also - someone else who references the movie Red Dawn in everyday life :)

*Considering I spend ninety-nine percent of my time either in the pool, at my desk, or going to the grocery store, I figured I could get away with a goofy color for once. That is, until I shake the estate planning attorney's hand and feel exactly like the kind of asshole who thinks green nails are a fine idea.*

still love her. so snarky. the biggest problem i have with her books is that i finish them too quickly!!

Laugh out loud funny as always, but I did feel I had heard some of stories before on her blog-- downside to following a memoir author on social media, I guess!

So I realized something sad when I started to read Jeneration X, Jen Lancaster’s 2012 “chapter” of her non-fiction series: I think I’ve outgrown it. This is equal parts sad and odd because a) I used to love her non fiction titles and b) I’m at least a decade younger than she is. At some point between [b:My Fair Lazy: One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover If Not Being A Dumb Ass Is t he New Black, or, a Culture-Up Manifesto|7090290|My Fair Lazy One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover If Not Being A Dumb Ass Is t he New Black, or, a Culture-Up Manifesto|Jen Lancaster|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1349080673s/7090290.jpg|7346398] and the latest chapter in her “I’m a fancy author and now so is my friend Stacey and I have to remind you every other page”, I got bored. Also sad, it look me four weeks to get through this book, only the sixth one I’ve finished this year. I am so off pace it is sad.

I think the biggest issue with this one was a lack of filter or editor. Seriously, a book shouldn’t read like a blog, and there’s a reason I don’t read her blog. That said, there were some funnies in this book as well as some things I identified with — unfortunately they were somewhat drowned out by her egotism. Midway through the book when talking about eBay she identified herself as “hypercompetitive asshole”. At least she knows her shortcomings. Note to self: read the Amazon reviews before buying. A good number of them nailed exactly what I was thinking.

Love love loooove it

Jen Lancaster is absolutely hilarious! Her outlook on life - brilliant!

Love me some Jen Lancaster!

This is the type of writing I want to do. Or, to clarify, the type of writing I want to get paid to do. Lancaster is hilarious in a casual way, and is honest about her weight, her laziness, and her penchant for spying on her neighbors. It makes me want to be her best friend. I read the book in about a day and am ready to read all the others she's written.

Having red other books by Jen Lancaster I appreciated the irreverent stories of life and 'becoming an adult'. While having read other stories is not a requirement to enjoy this one, it did help with the context not only to some chapters, but to their style of writing as well.
