I learned some interesting historical information but i was not convinced by the main arguments and I don't think the authors did a very good job of connecting all these people in history in a convincing manner. Some parts of this book were quite readable and others were extremely academic but poorly explained.

Got bored.

I enjoyed reading a book that wasn’t about queer struggle or all we’ve overcome. This book tells the stories of queer folks who were deeply complicated and show that the queer community is not a monolith. Sometimes, I felt like I did not have enough context quickly enough about *who* someone was and why they were important to history. I loved how this book detailed people who were villains AND gay and not villains BECAUSE they are gay.

I really don't want to DNF this but I'm only half way and my attention has dried up.
This is so well written and I can easily see how this topic would make for a hilarious podcast, but there is SO MUCH information packed into each chapter. While each chapter focused on a particular "Bad Gay", this book was actually more about the history of homosexuality and each Bad Gay was mainly used to provide a time frame in that history. I was expecting more of a brief biography for each chapter with a side serving of history, but the abundance of names and dates and places ultimately did me in. I really enjoyed the narrative writing style, especially coupled with the authors side remarks, but after 7 chapters this had me glazing over.
