There were times I found the writing of this a bit inaccessible (however I will admit it has been some time since I have read something this scholarly).  It's also a shame that there is only one chapter on a queer woman.

Overall though it was an interesting look at some well known historic figures through a new lense

Loved this book..such astute analysis on the concept of sexual identity, the sanitization of historical figures and the complexity of life. A must read !
informative slow-paced

so so content heavy, lots of names and events referenced in the book with no clear description of what they are (im not a history student i’m too thick for this book), whilst other paragraphs are far too wordy and could have been cut down a lot. quite disappointing there was only woman referenced in the entire book, i found for a book that talks about diversity, there isn’t a lot for the people they talk about - when the author could have discussed trans or sapphic people
i found the chapter about the kray brothers interesting and the first 3 chapters were easier to read. definitely would recommend purely for the content and facts but not for the discussion

Educational while keeping the narrative fun and interesting, would definitely recommend for those who don’t typically reach for non-fiction
