Very well written, thoroughly researched and structured, and I really enjoyed reading many of the, what I think are best described as, mini biographies through a contemporary queer lens. That said, however, I found it tough to connect with all the material and maintain interest through all chapters. I’ve never been much of a human history and politics buff, and I think you need to be to get the most out of this. Surely a 4 or 5 star read for many, but not for me personally.

An entertaining, surface-level insight. I enjoyed it but felt the depth quite lacking. Tone was very readable

Impactful - an important read elucidating some of queer history's villains

I mean there were interesting parts, but it was also long-winded and repetitive at times and I swear I will roll my eyes If I hear one more: people at that period did not see homosexuality the same we do. I was glad when it was over.
