I love when books exist about queer culture, people, theory, sociology etc that use the word f
aggot
and refer to people as racist with the knowledge and fair assumption that I would not first need to be convinced racism exists. It's like a friend and comrade is infodumping to me in the alley outside a drag show while they're having a cigarette. It's writing that talks to me like a peer and a queer.

Not that great of an historical analysis. Very surface level interpretations of historical figures, and very vague evidence of queerness. Scope could’ve been expanded to the wider community and more defined figures could’ve been found. A completely forgettable piece of historiography.

I found the introduction really fascinating, but the historical figures discussed in subsequent chapters failed to capture my interest

This might go down to a four when my reading high wears off but I literally have 0 complaints and so much praise for this book. It's a really good history meets queer theory interdisciplinary look at historical figures that expressed sexuality outside of the norms of the times. The way it's written is both specific/nuanced and accessible to people who aren't in the know of these fields already. I really loved it!

I checked back in on Hoopla, then I couldn't get it back, then I forgot about it. But it was very interesting!
