I really try to love history books but… I fell asleep reading this despite the very interesting content. Definitely more of a “it’s not you, it’s me” situation.
The title really does feel a bit misleading as it’s much more an academic look at prominent/influential figures in history (almost entirely men) who were gay. If you’re looking for something a bit more along the lines of “villains who were gay,” maybe their podcast is a better choice?

I love a good historical villain. Throw in some queerness and I'm in. This was pretty dense and challenging at times. I really appreciate the levity this brings to queer identity in history and around the world, even when it's terrible and especially when it's not glorious.
Not everything queer is worth celebrating, but it doesn't mean it's not important.
I will definitely be checking out the podcast.
