My review of this book is entirely contradictory. I liked that it wasn't written like the thick tomes of historical text with sixteen footnotes attached to the bottom of the page that I usually have to read for class.
I didn't like that it wasn't written enough like a history book. There were tiny errors here and there that I picked up on. The one that alerted me was the erroneous statement that Margaret Mead attended DePauw University in *Chicago* for a year when DePauw is in Indiana. DePaul is in Chicago. It's a common mistake, but it made my confidence in the editing and fact checking falter. After that, I felt constantly like there needed to be MORE footnotes or if I was to just accept some of these facts at face value. I struggled with this because I did enjoy the more relaxed style of writing history, but I struggled to trust the validity of the text.
As for the thesis of the text, it was an interesting and fun read! Before I read the introduction, I scoffed and went "really? only one woman?" and then when I saw the thesis, I said "nvm <3".
