So good. Scary and dark but fun too. It makes you think and there’s trauma and physical and psychological horror. A masterpiece

Creepy and tense. Could not put this book down, read it in one sitting.

Saw this book on the shelf at my local library and snapped a photo to come back later. I was in between books and figured I’d give it a try! This book was bananas! So much going on (in a good way) that it kept the storyline going and kept my attention. The family/paternal storyline, in my opinion, could have been removed and the story would have been a bit cleaner. Just found it out of the blue. Did not expect the ending of this one. Would recommend!

A bit gruesome, I found myself thinking "why are they doing that?" Like watching a b rated horror show. But it was an interesting, quick read with plenty of plot twists

This story is told in first person by Laney. This is my fourth book by this author and even though I knew it was labeled horror, I wasn’t expecting it to be this creeptastic. The isolated island setting in Lake Superior made for a very atmospheric spooky read with both sandy shores and rocky cliffs with crevices for pitfalls plus wooded areas with creeks and a rickety footbridge. Add in some hex circles, dead animals and body parts and this all added up to be a little spooky in the night for me and I’m hard to scare.

There are six characters that end up trapped on the island. They were interesting and easily distinguished with previous relationships and secrets that made for both comradery and excessive tension. The teenager gave some pretty good snark which led to more than a few laughs on my part. Some might find their petty squabbles distracting from the overall ambiance of the story and there was an often-referenced ambiguous event that happened in the past that I found a bit annoying and could have been revealed sooner.

Overall, I enjoyed this atmospheric thriller. It would make a great addition to your spooky reading list.

This book was all over the place. Zero-character development and the characters are not really likable.

The twist that the author attempted to put forward weren't the bombshells they thought it would be.

Each theme they introduced seemed to be throwing anything at the wall and hoping something sticks.

I am still unsure about a lot of the plot.

Visually I think some of the scenes would look great.

At the end I supposed it can be seen as a Persephone ending. Which in itself is another theme that just didn't land correctly.

The horror aspect was mostly gore which in writing I don't find scary, it needed a lot more tension which the way the characters processed things so logically didn't make it possible. It was hard to get into the story. I thought the reveal near the end was very interesting but not enough to make me like the book.

2.5 The character development was not there for me, I also didn’t care for the “reveal” at the end.

Until the last two chapters i was in a rage about how i couldn’t give this book zero stars. Those last few chapters were like a 1.5 and i rounded down because this book high key did not deserve the benefit of the doubt. God

This was good! I felt a little disconnected since I had so many assignments due while I was reading this one. But the creepy factor was there in abundance. The story was great, I liked about half the characters and was annoyed by the others, though I think maybe I was supposed to be. The author opened up a lot of questions early on. As they started to tie up loose ends, there was a huge twist that I did not see coming.

Now, I normally analyze multiple outcomes as I'm reading through a book and usually stumble upon the right one at some point before it's revealed. I don't know if this one snuck up on me because the storytelling was good, or because I was distracted by essay writing, but I did enjoy being taken by surprise!

Would recommend for an easy horror read :)
