A remote island mystery with a sprinkle of horror and a whole lot of old high school drama unburied.

I picked this book up knowing nothing about it, other than the synopsis was intriguing. For the first half to three quarters of the book the story was intriguing and had all the makings of a great thriller/slasher story. The last part though was so outlandish and ridiculous that it ruined the book for me. If you enjoy paranormal/far fetched books then this might be an intriguing read for you, it just wasn’t for me.

This is my first book from this author and I am guessing it will be my last based on other reviews stating that she likes to add paranormal aspects in all her books.

I really enjoyed this book. First, I loved Kelley Armstrong's Cainesville series and I currently have the Casey Duncan series on my "must read immediately" list so I was excited to see a standalone. The characters are engaging, the mystery pulls you in, the element of supernatural works very nicely and I loved the ending. Highly recommend this as a fun, spooky season read!

I received an advance copy from Netgalley and the publisher.

I did not see some of those twists!

Meh. Was put off pretty early by
the MC’s rapist showing up and everyone being relatively chill about it. It sort of made sense toward the end, but even so. Support your friends.

I also didn’t care for the paranormal route it took. It felt poorly led up to, or maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention.
