Just ok. I wasn’t expecting the twists towards the end, didn’t love them.
I have mixed feelings about this one. I enjoyed the first half, but it started to fall off as the paranormal elements were added in. With that said, I started this book at midnight and finished it by the afternoon, which hasn’t happened in awhile.
This stand-alone horror story has a little of everything - nature, friends, family, relationships, murder, suspense, and even romance.. Kelley Armstrong can write any genre and do it so well that I will read anything she writes.
Hemlock Island us a story about a wedding gift turned AirBnB after a post-Covid divorce, and about how so many visitors disrespect Mother Nature, until finally Mother Nature retaliates.

These characters were great! Highly complex and highly flawed but very real. The plot was also a lot of fun and very scary. It was a good mystery and seemed very realistic until the end when things got supernatural, which I didn't love in this case, though overall I did enjoy the story. I made the mistake of reading this at night and couldn't stop until I finished the novel.
An intricate story
Beautifully woven and crafted with care. Couldn't put it down. Kelly continues to intrigue and keep you on your toes!

Great idea. Terrible execution. The writing was juvenile and needed major editing in many places. The lack of details and background was astounding. How was this out on shelves?
There were too many things going on, and too little focus on creating a fully developed story.
I really like a Rip in Time by her so this was disappointing. Oh well. Moving on.

Received an ARC via NetGalley.
I really wasn’t sure what kind of genre this was going to turn out to be. I’m most familiar with Kelley Armstrong from her Rockton series (which I adore) and this was not that. It’s not a genre I spend much time in, or one I enjoy spending much time in, but I think despite that, it was a pretty good story. The tension kept me invested and it was downright unsettling at times. Though I prefer Rockton/Haven’s Rock, I wasn’t disappointed.

A good story got awry
The first 3/4 of this book are very good and then it just got stupid. What looked promising turned out disappointing

The story of the island was really good, especially if you come packing knowledge about Lake Superior before reading. I don’t think the storyline of the romance fit in very well, it felt underdeveloped for 3/4 of the book. Possibly it’s that there wasn’t enough substance built in the beginning to help you “care” where that part was going, but it also was intertwined in odd places. It would have been nice to see the birds play a larger role throughout the story, giving signs or looming eerily, since that’s a major part of the ending.
