A true horror book that was at once totally disturbing, unbelievable, and written, like a light thriller? Hemlock Island has a great premise and I think this is the kind of book that would make an excellent movie.
The twist is well done, and I admire that the author sticks to what could be seen as a difficult lore to maneuver. The atmosphere is wonderful, and if not for the purely surface characters (why do the two married leads talk like they’ve never met each other?), this would have been a near perfect horror scenario.

I enjoyed the “locked room mystery” feel of this book. An isolated island with no way off, an ancient entity out for revenge, lots of gore and tension. The middle drug a little but I felt like it was meant to help build dread. Overall it was super creepy.
