Incredible! The child-like voice of the narrator is really compelling. The final vignettes are haunting, somewhat dismal, a stark contrast to the levity of some of the earlier chapters. Will absolutely reread one day.

the concept was good— i liked the idea of each vignette telling the story of a different neighbor on mango street. i just didn’t really connect with the writing style.

i understand it was purposely choppy because it was from the point of view of a child, but it was hard for me to stay engaged. might have landed better if i’d read this when i was younger.

Baru sempet review setelah sehian purnama huhu.

Aku suka buku ini. Ini kumpulan cerita pendek gitu ceritanya. Ada banyak karakter dengan berbagai backround dan problematika hidup masing-masing yang secara garis besar adalah problematika kehidupan masyarakat di pemukiman slump (?).

Buku ini tuh gambaran naratif dari berbagai case rantai masalah kemiskinan struktural. Membaca ini 30% hangat, 70% panas. Pengen ngamuk, tapi ya sedih, tapi ya gimana lagi.
