I’ve been sick af today so maybe if I felt better I’d enjoy this book more but it was just very ehh.. also, I’m a white dude with a pretty privileged life so honestly I feel like I’m unable to resonate as much to this one as someone else.

I enjoyed it enough to know it wasn’t a 2⭐️ read but not by much.

Will probably re-read this one day when I’m in a better headspace.

An easy read from a Latina author.

I really enjoyed this book as an audio that i decided i needed to read it to fully understand what these collection of stories were really about. It was easy to read and as a mom to a toddler stopping wherever i had to stop really helped to not feel as though i was going to lose my place. I enjoyed the topics and found myself feeling sad at some of these stories because some are truly heartbreaking.

This book is for someone who understands our culture, who understands that our parents tried their best even if it wasn’t perfect (no parent will ever be), this is for the ones who feel as though they are missing a part of their culture being so far away from their roots, the ones who want a glimpse of what it’s like being a daughter in the Latino community. Atleast that’s what I believe.

I first read Sandra Cisneros in my first year of university and now I finally read this novel that is a collection of vignettes told by Esperanza Cordero. T loved how Cisneros portrayed the life of this young Latina girl and her neighbourhood. It was beutiful and moving. My favourite vignettes were "No Speak English," "Sally," "Beautiful & Cruel," "Red Clowns" and "A House of My Own"

Overrated. Themes of the book tried to be deep but came off as edgy and uncomfortable instead of having much meaning. Some good messages about social justice, it just felt quite underwhelming.

Más que ser una novela, "The house on Mango Street" es una especie de anecdotario, un puñado de cuentos breves que forman una unidad, tanto en el estilo como en temas y personajes. Es un libro muy agradable, de una sencillez exquisita.

A little bit all over the place, yet very important to highlight the struggles of mexican immigrants in the usa.
