Sweet. Adorable. And Romantic.
I received an ARC of this book from Entangled Publishing, LLC, and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Lucy Campbell has just started her new life in a new city, Confluence and with a brand new job at KDVX as a Producer. Struggling to keep track of this new life and leaving behind her old one had been hard enough for her when she came face to face with the one person she loves to yet loathe the most, William Covington, her teenage crush, also working in the same office as a reporter she couldn't help but question everything she's decided after accepting this job.

William Covington, after losing his mother to cancer and flirting and wasting away through his teenage years, fighting his way to win his mother's Reporting House from his father and trying to work hard to make her late-mother proud after years of disappointing her.

When an amazing chance to cover the mysterious theft stories of a famous Honeymoon Resorts, Twin Lakes appears, Lucy and William has to go undercover for this story pretending to be a couple.
A girl next door kind of story with a humorous approach and for that sweet first love and second chances.
Will they succeed in uncovering this mystery?
Or
Will this story and trip finally give them another chance?
I really loved the storyline and all the sweet and romantic moments between Lucy and Will. The part where they start investigating about the mystery of the Honeymoon Resort added some fun and that also helped them grow closer together finally after so long. I loved all the characters in this story, especially Dixie and Simon and the sassy cat. Katie's part in this story was very small, I still liked her.
Though the title of the book didn't justify the real story so well, still it was a lovely read.
It was the first book I read of the author Christina Hovland and I really enjoyed this story.

I loved this story, and I couldn’t put it down! Right from the get-go the story is funny and the characters enjoyable.
Lucy is totally relatable as a woman who has gone from ugly duckling to swan, but still struggles with low self-esteem from her younger years. William is the reality tv star that doesn’t remember her. He was betrayed on tv years ago and works to make sure his image is not ruined. The two are forced together for a few days to investigate a honeymoon resort, and the chemistry was amazing. I found myself going “just one more chapter” at the end of each chapter.
The book was enjoyable, sweet, and kept me turning the pages. I highly recommend it and can’t wait for the next one!

In short, this was boring. The book was fine. Not great, not awful, just ok. Nothing stands out, neither in a good nor in a bad way. The characters are bland and the storyline predictable. Before the halfway mark I was already skimming in hope of getting to something interesting again. This story line had so much potential and I so desperately wanted to like it. It wasn't a bad book, nothing special really bothered me about it but nothing really held my attention either. I feel like the plot was not flowing. I skipped pages in between because I kept getting bored. I keep thinking that I was supposed to like and enjoy the main couple, except I didn't. I didn't hate or dislike them but I didn't like them either. They were simply 'meh'. It felt like pretty paint-by-the-numbers contemporary romance, to be honest. Perfectly serviceable, but nothing to get excited about.
I tried, I really tried but this one just didn't do it for me.

An adorable read!

The Honeymoon Trap was a fun, rom-com-ish undercover fake romance story. Lucy is a likable heroine who it's all to easy to identify with. I especially loved her inner voice--it had me LOLing more than once. William is the perfect hero for her, determined as much to be there for and with her as he is to live up to his mother's expectations.

Though in true rom-com fashion portions of the plot don't get as strong a treatment as they could have, this was still a fun read from cover to cover. It's my first book from this author, but definitely not my last!

Rating: 4 stars / B+

I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I did and found the premise to be believable (albeit a little cheesy) and the characters likable. I liked that the author gave some depth to Lucy and her backstory but found some of the "fat" talk to be condescending. I wish her past as an overweight person wasn't seen as something she had to overcome in order for Will to notice and love her. However, I found it refreshing that she didn't dwell on her weight as much as I feared when she first brought it up. My other main issue with this book was the side stories that could have brought more to the story but seemed like afterthoughts and thrown in as filler.

There were definitely some great humorous aspects to this book and I did find myself chuckling at some of the situations. I was happy with the ending and the book did wrap up nicely.

I liked it enough to read other books by this author but wouldn't make it my next read

The Honeymoon Trap is Christina Hovland’s debut novel. Lucy and Will go toTwin Lakes, to try to expose the resort questionable business tactics that appear to target honeymooning couples by overbooking their rooms and stealing items from their room. They have met before, but he doesn’t recognize her, which allows a relationship that wouldn’t have occurred eight years ago. An additional complication is that Will is soon to be her boss as he’s inherited the television empire she works for.

Hovland makes trope characters (self-centered playboy and ugly duckling turned swan) feel fresh. Their story involved insecurities, bullying, parent-engendered internal struggles. There is chemistry between the hero and heroine as well as humor. The sex scenes were well-written. In the second half of the book, the character’s flip-flopped on their relationship so often and over such banal reasons, I felt dizzy. Their emotions didn’t ring true during those episodes. I would have like more depth of emotion. However, my Kindle shut down half-way through, and I was disappointed to be taken out of the story.

Lucy takes a job in Confluence at a tv station and finds her teenage crush, William, is her neighbor and also her colleague. When they go undercover as a honeymoon couple things get heated.
But William doesn’t remember Lucy from when she was a lowly assistant on his reality show ...

There was a lot going on in this story actually. Both Lucy and William have issues with their family, Lucy still suffers from low self-esteem after being bullied and ridiculed in her childhood plus there is the whole unrequited crush-on-William thing from 8 years ago when Lucy was overweight and shy. This time around, William is interested in Lucy, but she has changed herself from when she was shy Lulu.

The honeymoon undercover thing was just to get them together and is not that big a part of the story. I also wonder why William would bother, as he is set to inherit his mother’s company including the tv station Lucy works for.

But the story overall is quite good with some realistic feeling to it. It was not a cookie cutter romance. I did think some things were resolved quite conveniently near the end. Nice epilogue.

I requested and received an ARC via Netgalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
