Now, the story. I think it was really well paced, it did not feel like I was reading 600+ pages. It flowed well and the story handled exploring and showing Aoife and Joey’s relationship developing really well.
Starting with my love and the biggest reading heartbreak, Joey Lynch. I think his addiction and why he does what he does was shown well, though I do wish some parts were explored just a bit more. We jumped back and forth very quickly when there were times I wanted to stay with him for a bit. His growth, and fall backs, were really well-written, especially when he was learning to say sorry from Aoife and whenever he would argue back whenever confronted with his feelings. His actions made sense and felt realistic. I shockingly didn’t cry as much in this book, at least not as much in the first part, but I already know his second book will destroy me.
Now, Aoife Malloy. She is exactly who she thinks she is. An icon, a legend. I honestly would have never put up with all that she did with Joey, but she’s such a realistically written teenager that you can’t love her. Every time she forces Joey to confront her and his feelings, it shows she’s exactly what he needs.
Overall a really good story that sets the groundwork of their relationship and sends you into the next book really rooting for Joey (though we all know how that’s going to go and my heart already hurts). I love them both, the only negative I have with this book is a lack of Gibsie (jokes), though his little cameo was 10/10 :)

I liked Joey and Aoife’s story better than Shannon and Johnny.

I am so confused by the chokehold these books have on the reading community. While I understand the story is very raw and tragic and the characters are young and relatable, the writing is bloody awful!! My God Chloe Walsh does no one edit these books? The books are hundreds of pages of straight dialogue, flipping between two characters repeating the exact same scenes from the other pov. It is exhausting to read, especially this one.
How many beatings can Joey take without bleeding internally or dying at this point. These books are disgustingly descriptive about really horrible things, definitely read your trigger warnings. I got half way and started skimming through the pages to get to the end. The writing is just awful.
I really hate that I had to relive the trauma from the first two books all over and ten fold in this one. 3 ⭐
