Wow, what a phenominal book. I listened to the audiobook and Kingsolver herself was the narrator. This had to have made a big difference as she could really capture Adah in particular. Each daughter is so beautiful in their own right, and the parents terribly flawed, yet empathetic. The deep and controversial themes as told through the voices of all of the drastically-different children created a beautiful novel that will stay with me for a long time.

I also love the fact that I'm 2-for-2 with Barbara Kingsolver. I can't wait to read more by her...

Barbara Kingsolver is a master storyteller. Her ability to craft a  beautiful and heart wrenching story about a family, while simultaneously telling the story of the devastating damage colonialism and imperialism has wrecked on Africa, specifically the Congo, is unmatched. I learned a great deal, cried, even laughed, will be processing this book for some time.
