for a book with such a light, pretty cover this did get dark quickly. i went into this knowing very little about the book and with a completely open mind. it was not what i expected but it was so engaging and gripping to me. TW major trigger warning for sexual assault and abuse all in minors!

At first, I was very confused when I was reading this book, but I stuck with it and was able to iron out any confusion. The story goes back and forth between present time and the past but tells the story of the main character’s upbringing as well as her mother’s childhood. Essentially you are reading about 3 generations.
I do like how the present time is written to tell the story within a 24 hour time period, and doesn’t hold back on anything.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book about the life of Elle, is filled with every trigger warning out there. I honestly am amazed Elle has any sort of relationship with her mother at all! But the writing was lush and beautifully descriptive, the characters so real, the story heartbreaking and hopeful. I didn’t agree with every choice Elle made, and I thought many of her choices were very self-centered, but I cared deeply about her.
