Wow. The ending was unlikeable and I didn’t think it made much sense. However the writing was phenomenal and the plot even more interesting.

A very flat story. The writing was ordinary but the random long descriptions and the abuse scenes did not work for me at all.

“‘Flip a coin, Eleanor. If the answer you get disappoints you, do the opposite.’ We already know the right answer, even when we don’t—or we think we don’t. But what if it’s a trick coin? What if both sides are the same? If both are right, then both are wrong.”

So maybe family dramas just aren't for me, but I think overall this book was just too much. It definitely bordered on trauma porn for no real reason?? Like there was so much detail and just everything was unnecessarily traumatic. The characters are pretty garbage people, no one will talk to each other and everything is just sad all the time. I don't know, it just felt like a story about miserable people living miserable lives. Some scenes were redeeming while others were just hard to read. Reviews seem to be really conflicting, so there's no real answer to whether it's the book or it's me...
