dark slow-paced

Not as exciting or interesting as I'd hoped, the characters lacked depht and motivation and felt more like puppets to take the story where the author wanted it to go. A bit disappointed.

I was once again influenced by Instagram when buying this book.
it was okay but the big hype that this book had is not understandable.
it is a Romeo and Juliette rendition set in the 1920 in Shanghai.
I liked the idea but the plot idea with the sickness and the monster wasn't for me.
the only reason I read the second book is that I already own it.

Forever scared of those brain eating bug things

You would not have to read Romeo & Juliet to enjoy this re-casting of Shakespeare's not so very original. I had fun with the echoes, but this story goes in so many new and unusual directions.

3.5 stars. Good writing, interesting story.
