A quick read but absolutely excellent. In the wake of 2020 protests, there has been much said regarding the Black Lives Matter movement and anti-Blackness in America. Still, I think it is essential amongst learning rhetoric and policy, we ground ourselves in the human element.

First- I absolutely HATE rating books such as these. How can I put a rating on someone else’s lived experience?

22 pages of heartbreak as a mother and Black woman. I am devastated for her! No words.

This is a quick read/listen. These are the reflection of Trayvon's mother 10 years after her son's death. She speaks on lessons learned and need to press forward in the work that was started after death of her son.

It's hard to believe it's already been ten years since Trayvon Martin was murdered. These words by his mother are haunting and powerful. There is so much I would love to quote here, that it would end up being basically the whole thing.

You owe it to yourself and to the Black community to read this, especially if you are a white person in the US. I can't recommend this enough. It is painful and raw and emotional and an incredibly important window into what so many people are forced to deal with. When there is such a push against things like CRT and education on racism and racial injustice, this is a perfect example of why these things are needed in our society.

Please read this.

Today I made a post on tumblr with the book cover and three quotes I cherished the most. This was before finished the essay. As I kept reading. I highlighted more quotes, and more quotes. I even went back and slowed down my reading and highlighted more. This essay was so powerful to me, so well written. She pours her emotions in this book, all her perspectives, her journey in this horrible tragic incident that happen with her son. You can feel all that is written. I can see her side because I am a mother. I can see her side because my sister was taken away, and I was not ready. She says, "Sometimes you have to step into roles that you do not want. You can find the strength from within if you are willing to live in your purpose". For her to say this, to be so strong. To let us into her world is everything. I cried reading this essay/listening. I want to hug her. I am angry for her. I want to tell her I am proud of her for writing this essay. It definitely is not an easy thing to do. My gosh her writing is great and captured so much. Trayvon your parents loved you so much. Your mom will have to tell your story in order to tell hers too. You were taken away so soon, It is not fair. May Trayvon Martin rest in peace.

Very quick read (I honestly didn’t realize when I started this that it was so short), but very well written. I felt the emotion as Sybrina Fulton discussed the death of her son. A tragic loss of life in this world.

Im happy to hear her speaking out after a decade. I know its not easy or settling to speak on something so heartbreaking but Im ecstatic she is able to speak on it. What happened to Trayvon Martin is terrible and we all saw first had just how bad the judicial system is. I want better! I need better! We cant continue to live in this agony. May God Bless us all!
