I lack the words to accurately express how important this book was to me as an appreciator of Spock. It feels strange to say that such a book made me feel connected to someone that doesn’t exist, and yet that’s what this fiction provided me. Spock as a character has been extensively comforting to me for a comparatively short amount of time, considering how long he’s been present, but reading this retelling of parts of his story even I didn’t know about was extremely relaxing and meaningful. In the form of his autobiography, his t’san a’lat, as he referred to it, his tone shone through wonderfully and unveiled numerous events in a way that felt so vivid, I could’ve pictured them myself, despite the unfamiliar interstellar setting. Though the book was addressed to Picard, I often felt that with each “my friend”, he was talking to all of us as well, extending his story to all who cared enough to read about him. A wonderful read if you share my love for Spock, he has, and always will be, a great friend to me.
