This story just sucked me in and I read it and the sequel in just a few days. The story is about a girl who is pretending to be a boy in order to become a Dragoneye - the human counterpart to a spirit dragon. There are a lot of Japanese and Chinese cultural and historical aspects woven throughout the book including Chinese astrology which is represented by the 12 dragons. The pace of the book is relentless - there is always something going on. The characters are interesting and there are quite a few to keep track of, and the setting makes for such an interesting story. You will be cheering Eona on and holding your breath throughout the story.
dark slow-paced

It's well crafted, but not to my liking.

Suspensefull.

Really great premise & solid build up of tension but the last quarter of the book just didn't gel for me. I felt like the tone & focus of the book shifted too much from what the opening quarter led me to expect.

I was attracted to this book because I liked its premise, however found some parts to be predictable. This led me to become frustrated with the main character and how long it takes her to figure things out. There is a cliffhanger ending, so the story will continue on in the next book.

I really enjoyed Eon from the very first page. I think Goodman created something very unique. I really loved her imagery and word choice. Eona herself was a very interesting character; a girl pretending to be a boy and a cripple. Lady Dela was awesome too. Overall, this is a book I'd read again.

The first part was pretty slow for me, which is probably why I stopped listening on my first attempt at this. But man did it get super tense near the end. There were several parts in the second half that I was extremely uncomfortable listening to. Exciting ending, will eventually listen to the second one since I already have it.

I liked the story line of this book but I found it hard to follow at times. Some things I found were easy to pick up because of my knowledge of the chinese zodiac as well as history, but lesser known influences were harder to follow. It also could be that my brain didn't want to work!?!
