Very different book. Once I got past the 2nd person writing style the story was interesting. Some parts could have been explained a little better as to what they bad guys were trying to accomplish with their schemes. Overall will try other books by this author to see if he grows on me.
This was a great police procedural, with touches of Blade Runner and lots of speculation about a future that feels timely and informed by events in the news. The second person perspective put me off at first, but I'm glad I stuck with it.
The use of second person drew me in more than I have experienced before. It seemed that I was looking through the characters' eyes. It felt more like a first person video game than watching actors on a stage. It took some effort to adjust to the style, but it was worth it. Very interesting viewpoint on the future of humanity living in a world immersive technology and limited resources.
Wow. Police work in an independent Scotland just a few moments into the future. COPSPACE and augmented reality. Inspectors and detectives still are policemen who follow clues and put them together.

This was good. It was even really good. It was also confusing as hell. The end? Nope, now I need to go find the third book. Egads, Stross is good at dragging out the stuff you absolutely NEED to know.
Got distracted by other books and just never went back to it.
A noughties view of the future. Meme cops and makers set in an independent Scotland.
Infodumps in the Stephenson style, but with far more current cultural references.
A great (if explicit) quote: "staring up the goatse-shaped ring piece of the prolapsed ulcerous ass-meat of the Internet until their eyeballs melt".
