Nice little alternative history book. The characters are a bit corny and I didn't really like what happens with some of the slave characters but it was a quite charming piece, perfect for summer. Some of the battle descriptions were lame and a there were surprisingly few battles. The book had a few moments of "really?" like when the British see technological advancements and say "we're in a new era". It felt a bit anachronistic, but I suppose that's the genre.

I have three chapters left and it has taken me 5 months to read this book. It was extremely boring and dense. There were way to many characters and I didn't like most of them. I'll be glad to finish this book.
