Este libro no se toma muy en serio a si mismo, y eso está bien. Es un libro bastante ligero, que trata una sola cuestión: cuándo la protagonista comete un error que piensa le costará todo, y cómo hace para salir de él.
En su camino miente, engaña, y finge ser otra persona, pero ya que se trata de una comedia bastante ligera, dejamos pasar todo esto (finalmente, sus empleadores son algo engreídos, "lo merecen"), para centrarnos en sus peripecias mientras intenta ser ama de casa y todo le sale mal. Entiendo, cocinar no es simple, entiendo, limpiar una casa es demasiado trabajo y siempre, siempre, debería de ser remunerado; pero cuándo una persona es incapaz de hacer un té en la era moderna (con tantos tutoriales), si me quedo cuestionando sus habilidades generales para "cerrar contratos importantes entre empresas".
Y ese es otro detalle que se ve apenas por encimita, el antiguo trabajo de la chica, pero supongo que no importa, considerando que la historia va al frente.
Es un libro divertido, y está bien. Aunque lo intenta demasiado fuerte, la clase de historia que, para poder mostrarte porqué su vida pasada esta mal, te lo dice de manera directa, cómo si fuera un libro de texto, antes de poder permitir que tú mismo te des cuenta de lo que sucede, por medio de sutilezas. No, simplemente es recargada cómo mula, en este mundo capitalista maldito, y ella piensa "esta es la mejor vida", a pesar de que se ha perdido cumpleaños, navidades, tiempo libre, y tiene leche en su refrigerador de hace un año, nada de eso importa, cuándo estás en tu trabajo soñado que te mantiene en tensión constante, ¿verdad? ¡¿Verdad?!
En realidad, no creo que nadie cuente con la capacidad de llevar el estilo de vida que ella llevaba, pero bueno, ¿qué le vamos a hacer? Si no se hubiera recargado tanto porqué su trabajo era tan horrible, tal vez no hubiéramos comprendido porqué el ir al campo y vivir la vida tranquila le hizo tanto bien -sarcasmo-.
La verdad, esperaba de este libro cosas básicas, cómo cualquier romcom, estaba esperando que al final dijera "me quedaré en el campo", y fin (Finalmente, el libro se esfuerza bastante por mostrarte que está bien y mal), sin embargo, en la tercera parte del libro las cosas se rebuscan bastante, y ella termina por irse, para cambiar de opinión en el tren, y lo que debió de haber sido un momento de epifanía, debido a lo mucho que el libro insiste y a lo que ya todos sabemos, queda más cómo un: ¿En serio apenas te das cuenta, burra?" Y el personaje, cómo una necia.
Así que, está bien para pasar el rato, aunque es una historia bastante olvidable.

I wanted to read Nathaniel's note at the end! I understand why she didn't feel it was necessary to include it, but I still wanted to read it.
I also wish that Samantha had some kind of interaction with the brother that had a supposed "mental break." I suspected that he didn't have a mental break at all, that it was similar to what Samantha experienced. I would have loved to see them connect and her to re-connect with a member of her family that way.
I also wanted to see "Lady Edgerly" and her neighbor react to all these happenings. And I wanted to see Arnold behind bars.
In short, I guess I wanted a little epilogue chapter that touched on a couple of these things lol. But it was a lovely book without them too.

another win from Kinsella! and this one was much easier for me to believe.... seriously do you know how many times I want to just quit and be a housewife/barista/book shelver

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Having been another shelved book, I’m surprised at myself for not having got through it before. The storyline is predictable in places but that doesn’t take away from how enjoyable a read it is. It’s not a deep complex book, if that’s what you are seeking I suggest looking elsewhere, but for a good fun easy read this definitely ticked the boxes.
Following the protagonist as she realises an error/oversight has cost her the career in law that she has been working towards all her life, she ventures out in a haze somehow landing herself in the role of cordon bleu trained housekeeper. As she works her way through learning the ropes, with assistance from some colourful characters, and coming to grips with existing in a completely different world, you see her start to leave the world she was ensconced in behind - the question is whether it will stay that way? Can she leave behind the life she’s started to build to go back to the dragons lair? It was thrilling to find out.
In terms of the writing style - I loved it, flows well and reads easy. In terms of content, I could see how people might think the description of the legal profession is exaggerated, but having worked in that industry with chargeable hours, I can assure you - it’s not. The characters were well developed, the storyline fun and the twists interesting.
Overall a good fun read - one that would work well as a holiday read!

I always think of what i would do if i quit my job and try to do something i love instead. This book gives a perspective to that situation and it does it with so much wit and smart. Enjoyable.
I enjoyed the audio book much more than the paper book, which I read some years back.

It's a fun little romp which did manage to make me grin in a couple of spots. The ending feels a bit rushed - it seems the story is about to continue and then it abruptly ends, but beyond that, it's a perfectly enjoyable light read.
Cute story. Just the sort of entertainment I was looking for. Nothing spectacular, but one doesn't need to always read spectacular literature. Sometimes cute is plenty.
