This was an alright read. I am a fan of Sarah Dessen writing, but this was not her best work in my opinion. I thought the story was okay, and nothing really happened. Therefore, I thought the book was boring at times. The MC was okay. I did not love her or dislike her. I thought she was a bit annoying and immature for her age, and I did not really connect with her personality. The ending was disappointing. I can't wait to read more of her books. Overall, an okay read.

This is a great book. I still love it. But reading at 36 is a lot different than reading it when I was young. There was a moment where the narrator described a SPED bus using the R word and I had to do a double take. I know some books are crude on purpose to be gritty or shocking. I think that this was just a case of being written in the mid 90's. If I gave this book to one of my kids to read we would have a conversation about how that word is no longer used, but this is old media and a product of its time.

This was Sarah Dessen first book, you can notice the difference between this style of writing and her newer one, I have nothing against the old style, the story was well built and entertaining, I just didn't like the unresolved problems at the end like: what happens between her and her father? what happens to summer? what happen to Gwendolyn?
there was so many problems unsolved and characters I disliked such as:
Ashley, Casey, Lorna and her Dad

Desperate for an audiobook during long car drives. Glad it was short and now it's over. It just wasn't good.

Nothing to rave about, but I liked this debut. I've read several other books by Dessen, though, and feel that this has the least depth I have experienced from her. Moral of the story is - teens don't always fully know what's going on around them, and falling apart as life changes during those tumultuous years is OK.
