I found this book to be very slow and most of the story I wondered what was the point. It wasn't a bad read but for someone who doesn't read contemporary often, I was glad when I finished. Basically, in this book we follow Haven whose whole life is being torn apart. Her father is getting remarried, her sister is too and she'll be moving away, and even she may be moving too. All she wishes is for things to stay the same, which she finds in Sumner, one of her sister's ex-boyfriends.

If anything this story shows how ignorant one can be to "adult issues"

2.5 stars

Just finished this book and i'm having some mixed emotions about it. The First three chapters were kinda slow and a tad confusing but after that I got was into it and sat down and read from pg 63-174 then I put it down cause of school. And I just didn't wanna pick it up. I got bored.. Then it was fast pace and entertaining watching Haven develop in the end I give this book a 3.5/5

Pretty good, not my favourite Dessen book but nonetheless I enjoyed it.

Not my favorite Sarah Dessen book but I enjoyed it. Overall, it has a sadness in the theme of the story and that sat heavy with me.

g read

I read this book after I read some of Sarah Dessen's other novels, so maybe that's why I liked it less. It just didn't seem quite as complex or satisfying as her later works.

Haven is feeling confused about all the changes in her life; her sister getting married, her parents getting divorced and still arguing, and her father preparing to get remarried. It all seems to be moving so fast, and Haven wishes for the simpler days.

That's when Sumner enters the picture; a goofy, brilliant, funny ex-boyfriend of her sister's, and one of the people Haven remembers most fondly. Rebuilding a friendship with Sumner seems to give Haven's life balance again, bringing back memories of the happy times. But things do change, and will Haven find the strength to accept the things that are different?

It was a good premise, but Haven didn't seem as real as Dessen's later lead girls. Her problems just seemed like a bunch of teenage worries all hashed together to create conflict. I liked some of the other characters, especially Sumner (he reminded me irresistably of my all-time favorite Dessen guy, Dexter), so maybe that's why I was so disappointed by the ending.

I still love Sarah Dessen as an author though, and I'm glad her later books found their stride so well.

I felt like reading something light and fluffy, and this short little book fit the bill. There were a few errors throughout the book (a couple of consistency issues, and some grammar mistakes), which made me tempted to rate this a 3, but I did enjoy the story in the end, so it's a 4 from me.

Finished this a couple of weeks ago and forgot to add it - not the best Sarah Dessen book. This is her first, and definitely my least favorite. Haven, the narrator, hardly does anything throughout the entire story and just narrates other people's problems. If you're looking to read Sarah Dessen, start with something else - she really is a fabulous YA author.
