First time I've read Sarah Dessen novel and definitely will never be the last.
Thank goodness this book was only 200 pages long. Written almost 20 years ago, this was Dessan's first novel and well, frankly, it shows. I think it's also telling of how far YA has come. This book was tame, and very PG. There's not a lot to draw you in and I found the story quite boring. I could see how someone who was 15 and reading this might be able to relate to the life events that the main character, Haven, was going through (parent's divorce, father remarries, father and step-mom get pregnant, older sister is getting married and is mean to Haven). There's no love interest, no huge plot, but every author has to start somewhere, right?
The ending saved this book from a 2 star rating. I just had a hard time connecting with it and actually read 3 or 4 books in-between readings of this book. It was like a bunch of jumbled up pieces of the puzzle that you can't put together until the last 20 pages of the book. Not the best Sarah Dessen book I've ever read, but not too bad for a light summer read.
This book was good but I didn't connect to the characters as much as I usually do with Sarah Dessen's books.
2019. I have read this several times since I first discovered Sarah Dessen and while not my favorite, it is quick, short and deals with very important issues in a teen.
This book was kind of a snooze fest. The only thing I was invested in was the main character because I wanted to see if she ended up with the boy.
She did not.
It fizzled. The whole book fizzled.

I really have no words, I did not like this book. This was my first Sarah Dessen book, and I wished I started with another one. I honestly didn't think this book was all that good. It did connect in any way. As I said, I have no words.
