What a horrible disgusting book. I wish books had trigger warnings in them because this one needs it for almost every single page.

I would quite literally have to put this book down sometimes because of how nauseous it could make me, so definitely not for people with a weak stomach.

I kept reading, hoping it would get better, but it only got worse..

Definitely not for me and please think twice before reading it yourself.

This book was an absolute beast of a story. I burned through this book so quickly and it was difficult to put down, yet I didn’t want to keep going it was so disturbing. I shaved off a few points due to the sheer amount of incest in this book. I think that this could serve as a legitimate plot point, but in the case of this book it seemed to be purely shock factor. Despite this, the story was extremely well written and very addictive.

Honestly, Gerald’s Game felt very dated to me. I didn’t enjoy the misogynistic “male gaze” point of view; one scene, in particular, was very unnecessary and gratuitous. While King does employ some interesting literary devices to inject the story with a bit more conflict,
such as adding dialogue by giving the character multiple personalities (is that a spoiler?)
I didn’t particularly like any of the perspectives, finding most to be very annoying and oddly unsympathetic. I liked the ticking clock aspects, but the end went in a direction that I could’ve cared less about.

I guess I liked the dog and there were some lines that were just laughable, despite their offensiveness.

Definite trigger warnings.

I read this book after watching the movie (which goes against everything I typically am), hoping that it would provide more insight into the character or the ending. Honestly, I thought the adaptation was faithful enough and better-paced. As always, King is great in building tension and god, did I squirm while reading
the degloving scene
but overall, I felt the conclusion of the book was just fine.
