I absolutely devoured this book. I was angry when I had to try to sleep for my stupid work instead of reading all night. This was an amazing retelling of Beauty & the Beast and I was hooked from the very beginning. Portal fantasies aren’t always my thing because I’m not the biggest fan of bringing the real world into my fantasy reads, but I actually enjoyed that aspect in ATIEH.
I LOVED the mistaken identity/one night stand gone wrong. It’s such a great microtrope and this was perfection. I am obsessed with Daemon, and someone please explain to me why “peaches” is the sexiest, most amazing nickname ever?! Because 🫠 I really like Alix and that fact that she’s a little older while also still figuring herself and her life out. Their dynamic and tension together was amazing.
I also adore all the other members of their their little group. I cannot wait for a book on Kas and Dessa because you just know that is going to be explosive. Jett and Fox would be be fun as MMCs of their own stories as well. I think their histories would be really interesting. I also like the idea of learning more about Aurelia. I think we’ve just barely scratched the surface with her 🤞🏻

Y’all, this book has the VIBES! I was hooked from the very start and finished it within two days. Beauty and the Beast retellings are my absolute favorites and this one is so unique and fun. It has so many great throwbacks sprinkled throughout to remind us of the source material while still maintaining a completely original story, and giving us characters that feel so real.

However, as much as I thoroughly enjoyed the overall vibe of the story, I really struggled with some of the timeline and plot discrepancies. It really felt like the whole thing needed an editing overhaul and many times it brought me out of the story. I also did not appreciate as a reader the Hogwarts Express comment. In the year 2025, we do NOT need more Harry Potter references in our books. All of that to say, I still really liked this book and will definitely continue the series!

This is the first installment of interconnected standalones, and I cannot wait for the next book and the couple it follows!!

If you’re a sucker for fairy-tale retellings with a dark and twisty edge, A Thorn in Every Heart by Kate King is a must-read. This Beauty and the Beast reimagining transports readers to the fae realm, where an entire kingdom suffers under a unique and sinister curse: touch sunlight, turn into an animal. The only cure? True love. The problem? Their self-obsessed king isn’t exactly the romantic type.

Enter Alix, a woman whose life implodes in the worst (or maybe best?) way possible when she catches her husband cheating. In a bold move, she ditches her old life and heads to Ironhill, her grandmother’s hometown, for a fresh start. What she doesn’t expect is to meet a ridiculously handsome stranger at a bar, feel an instant and uncharacteristic attraction, and make the impulsive decision to take him home for a night of… distraction.

That’s where things take a turn for the wild. The mystery man, Daemon, kidnaps her—thinking she’s actually her grandmother (yikes!)—and drags her through a portal into the fae realm. Turns out, Grandma Belle was once engaged to the aforementioned cursed king sixty years ago, and now Alix is caught in the middle of a tangled and deadly fairy-tale mess.

What follows is a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat adventure filled with court intrigue, danger lurking around every corner, and a slow-burn romance that absolutely sizzles. The banter between Alix and Daemon? Absolute perfection. (Seriously, chef’s kiss.) Watching their relationship develop while navigating the treacherous fae court kept me glued to the pages. Alix’s journey is especially compelling as she grows in self-confidence and understanding, stepping into her own strength amidst the chaos.

If you love strong heroines, a swoon-worthy romance, and an enchanting world wrapped in dark magic, A Thorn in Every Heart delivers in spades. Just be prepared for late-night reading sessions, because once you start, you won’t want to stop!

“Did you know that Fae senses are much stronger than humans? I can always smell how much you want me to fuck you. I can taste it, and it’s driving me fucking insane.”

Kate King’s best book yet! I'm a sucker for fairytale retellings, and Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite tales to be tweaked. That this one is also vibing with Anastasia (an absolute gem of a movie, just in case you haven't watched it yet, what are you waiting for?) makes for an engaging and exciting story mashup.

A case of mistaken identity. A family obligation. A bit of kidnapping and forced/arranged marriage to the wrong male. A strong FMC. A curse. A destiny.

Alix is the forbidden fruit. Daemon is the fae who whisks her away and cajoles her into staying. Who tries to resist his baser nature to claim her but is bound by duty to shadow and protect her. They have explosive chemistry that cannot be denied, and when they give in to their desires, the pages practically burn.

Fast burn to slower simmer, this is a standalone MF fantasy romance that ends in a HEA. The first of the Enchanted Legacies series, I cannot wait to see what Kate gifts us next!

Thanks to Kate King for the review copy.

If you’re looking for a perfect blend of the fae, Beauty and the Beast, and Anastasia, with steamy romance and one of my top favorite things - absolutely amazing found family themes, then you need to get this book! I knew I’d love this when she first discussed it but YALL. Color me obsessed!!

I adored everything about this book - and can we talk about all the beautiful art that’s at the beginning of each chapter?!

This book is stunning and is a must buy! I loved Alix and Daemon - the chemistry, the UST, the tension, I loved it all. I loved the twist on things. And I need stories for literally everyone else lol.

Also, amazing pop culture references. I knew when there was a Buffy reference right at the start that I was in store for a good time!

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

📖✨ Book Review: What if Belle never returned to the enchanted castle? ✨📖
Kate King had me at that first line—before I even knew anything else about this book. And wow, did it deliver. Beauty and the Beast meets Anastasia? Yes, please.
After a devastating betrayal, Alixandria Knight seeks refuge in a near-abandoned Appalachian ghost town, only to find herself tangled in an even bigger nightmare—a family curse, a forgotten promise, and a dangerously alluring fae realm. One reckless night with a stranger changes everything, thrusting her into a world of magic, debts, and a beastly king who has waited far too long for what he’s owed.
King weaves elements of the classic Beauty and the Beast story into something fresh, dark, and utterly addictive. There are nods to the original tale, but this is no simple retelling—it’s a whole new adventure with its own pulse, secrets, and heat. And let’s talk about the dedication… trust me, read it and take it seriously.
I read this during a reading retreat, and my friends were thoroughly entertained by my constant gasps, mutters, and outbursts. If you love fairytale twists with high stakes, sizzling tension, and an eerie, immersive setting, this is a must-read.

~ ARC REVIEW ~

I have a new favourite Beauty and the Beast retelling! This book surpassed my expectations in so many ways! What if Belle escaped the Beast? She goes on to live her life and years later, her granddaughter must, reluctantly, break the curse.

The result is an intense and spicy tale! I honestly thought I understood the curse but things weren't all as they seemed and the revelation blew my mind. The FMC is hilarious, sassy, and not totally down for the scheme. But she's in a predicament and is made an offer she can't really say no to.

Let's talk about the romance for a minute. Spicy in the first couple chapters? Yes, please. Forbidden romantic tension throughout? Hello! This author had her claws in me! If you like well balanced spice and plot, this is a book you will want to pick up! On that note, friends, you will want to be careful reading this book in public. This book is not sneaky with those chapter headers 🥵
