This meticulously drawn meditation on celebrity and obsession is as odd and off-kilter as the Las Vegas casino it’s set in. Its slight, meandering plot is best thought of as a rough framework on which Willumsen can deliver some beautiful unsettling scenery and occasional bits of inspired panel-to-panel storytelling. The greater theme of the book can seem somehow at once overwrought and undercooked, but Willumsen’s talent for those small nice moments—the strained yet friendly interactions between strangers, not knowing exactly which way to use an unfamiliar hotel shower—carries you through the book.

Celebrity as performance or as self. Willumsen's knack for writing benign dialogue and faux-introspection reveal the true depth of the 'celebrity's' utter, total emptiness. Absolutely gorgeous, his pencils glimmer and warp in the heat and his approach to layouts is revolutionary.
