This was a re-read but I didn't actually remember reading the majority of this book, even as I went. Nonetheless, it's just a thoroughly wonderful story. I love a heartbreaking misunderstanding, but this book was so light and lovely that it didn't need anything more than the small misunderstanding it had. The lead couple were both nicely developed and absolutely adorable - distant friends to friends to lovers is one of the best tropes and it played out so well in this book. Definitely worth a nice fluffy read.

Loved this! I think it is my favourite in this series. I love Honoria she is smart and funny and doesn't take herself too seriously. There is lots of dialogue which makes this an easy read and I found myself laughing out-loud at some parts. definitely recommend for a light read.

This was a silly, fluffy, historical fiction romance novel that I mostly read for the alphabet challenge (author last name beginning with "Q", book title beginning with "J", difficult to resist!). There was a lot of "Oh, Marcus!" and people saying "Honoria...." like they were really annoyed. There was also a lot of time in which the "hero" was incapacitated and ill, in which the romance couldn't really progress (though that's when the "heroine" spent the most time admiring his various body parts). The historical sensibilities were amusing. Nothing special, but cute.

This book is so soft and mostly fluffy (I mean that in the best way), though I’ll say the parts that are not so fluffy are grippingly intense and had me completely emotionally invested. I think the only thing I would criticize was that it was a little rushed. I bought Marcus and Honoria’s falling in love, because they already knew each other so well, and under the circumstances, “they slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered.” Furthermore, they’re both lovely people. However, I wish we had seen more interactions from their past (as the prologue accomplished so well) or more getting to know each other as adults—Honoria seemed to fall for Marcus while he was barely conscious with fever. It makes sense that the experience would help her realize her feelings, but I wanted a little more on-page foundation for them. I would have loved more scenes post-declaration of feelings—there were some threads from earlier in their relationship that didn’t get tied up, plus they were so gorgeously happy. I also wanted more of an epilogue, so I could see them with the big, boisterous family they both dreamed of, but I acknowledge that the author may be saving that for a scene later in the series. I can still wholeheartedly recommend this as a great example of Julia Quinn’s fare. If it helps, I liked it more than some of the Bridgerton books, but not as much as my favorite Bridgerton book(s). I can’t remember if this is the norm for JQ books, but this one gets bonus points for no sensationalized hymen tearing!

5 stars my first read through and 5 stars on my reread. Am I crazy to like the Smythe-Smith series more than the original Bridgerton series? Because I definitely do.

A little hard to get into and it dragged at points but it improved toward the end and I really enjoyed the ending.
