Will return to write a fuller review, but this book has restored my faith in this series after being less impressed with the second instalment.

Haven't read anything in the last 3 weeks and finally decided to review the ones that I already finished earlier this year but was too lazy to review.

This book is one of them.

Book 3 of the Librarian something something series, this picks up right after the previous one and doles out some heavy adventure, action and fun. Don't be fooled by my apparent laziness to go back and remember the name of the series and don't take it as a sign to skip this book.

This one's brilliant. The dynamic duo Irene and Kai are off to different worlds again in search of books that maintain the balance between order and chaos. Things get dicey from the get go when the door to the library in space and time malfunctions and our intrepid heroes find themselves fighting for their lives. Once again. The big bad librarian turned rogue finally turns his designs against the library and Irene must have her wits with her to match him skill to skill.

We are left with more questions than answers but nevertheless this was as fun as I could possibly imagine. On to the next one then.

I plowed right through this book. The world Cogman has created is so easy to get lost in and I'm someone who doesn't mind being lost. We finally got to experience a magical world in this book, which was nice, as we have been mostly in chaos and order. It feels like a relief to understand more about Alberich's plan, as well, though I won't share it here. Vale took more of a center stage in this book and his journey was engaging and nerve-wracking. Alberich drops a bit of a bomb on Irene, though it could be a totally untruthful one. It opens up the door for really interesting possibilities in the next books.

If you're someone who gets through a couple books in a series, then moves on, I beg you: read this book first!

My favorite one so far in the series. Lots of action, lots of fast thinking, and lots of excitement. The initial "bad guy" was really obvious and I wish this series had a bit more development. Yet it does what it does every well. It gives great plot and a building mystery of Alberitch and the workings of the Library.

This series continues to hold strong at being a new favorite for me! This time we're back shortly after the events of the previous and already whisked away into a new world with just as much excitement. This time it all takes place in an alternate Russia.

The third book starts out with a threat to the Library and Irene being somewhat at the center of it. Despite her efforts to stay hidden in her world full of protections, Alberich is back and stronger than ever. Irene is immediately thrust into danger via Alberich's plans and manages to keep a level head the entire time. I applaud her tenacity time after time and this introduction firmly sets her up for the events of the book.

Before Irene leaves with Kai to the other world, she also begins to grapple with the love triangle that the first two books set up between her, Kai, and Vale. I actually had no strong preference in who to root for, another first for me, since both are equally likable and compliment our heroine in different ways.

We also see more of Kai's history and the world of dragons, which is a nice development to the last book's setup with his family. I also appreciate the humorous feuding between him and Zayanna. She's one of my least favorite characters, especially since I prefer Lord Silver's dramatic fae antics, but it's a good dynamic.

As the plot progresses, we see more of Vale grappling with the effects of traveling to alternate Venice in the last book. Meanwhile, Kai and Irene suffer setbacks in alternate Russia with the way the world is currently set. The stakes are higher than ever.

This was a solid entry and it flowed very well. I was on the edge of my seat the last few chapters and am looking forward to getting my hands on the next book asap.

Absolutely brilliant!
A bit slow to start, as per usual, but once it gets going it REALLY gets going! I have so many theories!!! Every time I finish a book in this series I immediately want to get the next one, and I'm currently having to force myself to wait the seven days until I get my next month's audible credit.
