Star Wars Legends Project #280

Background: Luke Skywalker and the Treasure of the Dragonsnakes was published in February of 2010, the third in the Star Wars Adventures series of graphic novellas. It was written by [a:Tom Taylor|109984|Tom Taylor|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] with art by [a:Daxiong|7249883|Daxiong|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. Taylor has written a handful of comics, including a couple for this series. Daxiong also drew another of the Star Wars Adventures, but these are his only 2 Star Wars credits.

Luke Skywalker and the Treasure of the Dragonsnakes takes place 3 years after the Battle of Yavin, during Luke's Jedi training on Dagobah. The main characters are Luke, Yoda, and R2-D2. The story takes place on Dagobah.

Summary: As Luke grows ever more advanced along the path toward becoming a trained Jedi, Yoda gives him a task . . . a quest. In the deepest part of the swamp lies the lair of the king of the dragonsnakes, the most fearsome predator on the planet. In it lies a treasure that Yoda desires Luke to retrieve. He'll need all of his nascent skills to succeed, or even to survive!

Review: Honestly, this is almost worth reading just for the great way it depicts the relationship between Luke and Yoda, written very much in the tone we see in The Last Jedi. The art is fine, and I suppose it's good to spend some more time in one of the most underdeveloped sequences of the trilogy. (Not in terms of storytelling, you understand, but just in terms of conveying how a character gets from point A to point B . . . Luke's training inevitably feels rushed given only what we see onscreen.)

Beyond that, this isn't the best concept. Yoda seems to be acting a bit out of character, which makes the setup pretty obvious (though, on the other hand, this one is aimed at kids). The idea doesn't seem, on the surface, to be too thin to fill even the brief length of this series, but it ends up feeling padded nonetheless. It has its moments, but ultimately it's just not very memorable.

Too charming and hilarious. I had too much fun with the killer chemistry between Yoda and Luke. I appreciate the great drawings that capture the character's likenesses really well too. A great read. Gotta love Yoda. *snickers*
