4 star for now but debated a 4.5. I absolutely adored this story. Yrene has become one of my favorite characters and I loved reading her and Chaol’s story. I loved seeing Chaol’s character growth throughout this book and I’m proud of who he has become. The ONLY reason I deducted a star is bc I could NOT stand Nezryn’s POV. I just found it so boring. It got better as the book went on but I found myself dreading reading every time it switched to her. Nothing against her as a character. It was just boring.

This book was like a little band-aid to my heart.
I can understand why some people say this book can be a bit boring and that they dragged it but it is not the case for me.
There was a little emotional confusion though. At the start I started to feel a little disconnected from Nesryn but oh she came back strong. Her development and discoveries... Not just a side character but an important member of our court.
Getting to finally meet Yrene after what we saw of her back in The Assassin's Blade... I feel like she also healed me.
I hated Chaol in Queen of Shadows but this also did it for me. Just like all the others, he's a complex character and though he was always present in the other books, this is when we actually get to know him and understand him.
Not a 5 star book for me, but very close.
