Can I just say 'WOW' and let that be my review? Touch of Power was incredibly addicting, amazingly written and overall just utterly captivating. I'm a fan!

After three years on the run, Avry finds herself in a cell, waiting for her execution for being who she is. She gets bailed out by a group of rogues, who need her to heal their leader. Once again she finds herself on the run, but this time she has company - and I couldn't help but fall in love with the group of guys who freed her.

My absolute favorite character was Belen. I loved him so much! He was fully developed, completely fleshed out and just lovely. All of the characters were very well developed and it was easy to distinguish who was talking - although the monkeys were a bit hard to seperate - and I loved that they were all so unique. Even the antagonist, who you need to hate, had his good side and could be charasmatic if he wanted to, which made me completely confused on whether I should like him or not. Eventually, I picked my side; but he was made human, instead of a completely crazy madman like a lot of antagonists seem to be these days.

Avry was a strong female heroine with a mind of her own, determined and not afraid to stand her ground. I loved that! She had her weak spots, which made her human and relatable, and she made for a great main character. I loved to see her bickering with Kerrick, shooting sarcastic remarks at him. She was the only one who didn't do what he ordered her to do, and this immediately made me like her.

To be honest, I have no idea how to express my love for this book. It was very well written, with great characters and I loved the twists. If it wasn't for the fact that I was utterly exhausted, I would have finished it in one sitting - it's that good. I can't recommend this enough. If you like stories with strong and well written characters, a lot of plot twists, an addicting storyline and/or magic, I'm asking you.. What are you waiting for?! Go grab a copy and discover the awesomeness yourself!

really really fun and exciting :)

First of all, i love anything but Maria V. Snyder. She is by my favorite author and this book just insure her that she will stay at the stop of my list. I love Avry and Kerrick. I loved how fight to do what is right. even if that ment they were going to be put to death about it.

This book contains all the things I love in books! 4,5 stars.

P.s gaah I hate the cover

I really enjoyed this book, so much that I read it all in one sitting because I couldn't bear to put it down. After finishing the Glass series by this author I had high hopes for this story and I wasn't disappointed. Except for the fact that I didn't wait for the whole series before starting to read and now I need to wait for the next one to be out. All the same, this was a really good, quick read--for all that it seemed like it would be longer, the time flew by.

I couldn't put this book down, from the first page I was sweept into this swirling world of magic. Fantastic characters, i fell for all of them. The author is so gifted she even had me seeing the good in the "evil' ones. Amazing action, intrique, fantasy and a perfect amount of romance.

A young women, Avry survives the horrible plague that killed two thirds of the worlds population, only to be hunted for her gift. She is a healer, she can heal with just a touch. The rumors say that her kinds started the plauge. The powerful put a price on all healers heads. She must stay unnoticed to survive. That proves to be difficult when she is hunted by Kerrick a rough handsome man that needs her to heal his prince. He risks everything to save her, but for what ending ? if she does what he wants she will die. She travels through dangerous lands with his band of men where things don't go very well. The darkness that demands her attention just keeps after her, and she can't resist.

An interesting concept for healing magic, combined with the snappy dialogue from a sassy heroine we've come to expect from Maria V. Snyder. An enjoyable read, even if it sends you hunting through the dictionary for the correct way to spell the plural of "lily".
adventurous mysterious fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

This book was a rollercoaster. It’s a very quick, digestible read and exactly what I was looking for in my next book. It was fun and the characters really did grow on me. I can see how some people were annoyed with the main character, she can be a bit naïve and make rash decisions. She has a death wish like no other and is ready to self sacrifice at the drop of a hat. I found that annoying too but the plot twists and fast narrative style really drew me and kept me reading. Yes Avry is a little dumb but god bless it was a fun read regardless.

stuckinafictionaluniverse's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

DNF around page 180.
No real review because I have very little to say about those 50-ish percent.
The world, the characters, the plot.. All so painfully average and uninteresting. Slow-paced, didn't live up to the concept, and most of all boring.
What kept me reading was the captivating writing, which in the end couldn't make up for the cons.

It's a shame, since Snyder's Poison Study was fantastic. I've heard bad things about its sequels, and hoped I could get my dose of quality fantasy from this series instead. Sadly there was no such luck.

Had I finished, my rating would most likely be 2 stars. I could've finished this any other day, but right now I'm having trouble with my concentration. After reading a series of only okay books, I have zero patience for yet another one.

Touch of Power was awesome.
I was sucked into it right from the beginning and literally couldn't put the book down.
I was curious about Avry's background story and connection with the prince was also was obsessed with her relationship with Kerrick. You could feel their relationship blooming ever since he first rescued her. It's like they always say: there's a thin line between love and hate. In this case, there is.
I loved the creativeness of the 15 Realms and the many types of magicians. I constantly wonder what life would be like if I lived in the 15 Realms. Would I be royalty? A magician? Or a plague-infested victim?
The writing was awesome. It didn't explain absolutely everything in detail and bore me but was kept modern and had a go with the flow sort of style.
I really enjoyed Touch of Power and I can't wait to read [b:Scent of Magic|12027429|Scent of Magic (Healer, #2)|Maria V. Snyder|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1335295226s/12027429.jpg|16993521].
