Maria V. Snyder, i will buy any book you write! even when, for some unknown reason, the book was in the romance section of B&N. romance section?!
yes i braved the romance section to pick up this book knowing that the marketing crew got the book's genre wrong, and i was right!
this book has as much romance as a doctor who episode. enough to get you interested in the relationships but really you are intrigued in the main adventure plot. seriously, there wasn't even a kiss until after page 200. but i digress.
wonderful story. i couldn't wait until i could pick up the book again everyday.

This book was decent enough, but I won’t be carrying on with the series. I can foresee the rest of the trilogy being a drag of repeated battles and long walks to get to places. There just wasn’t enough happening in this book to make me feel intrigued enough to read a second and a third.

I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I'd previously tried Poison Study by the same author and had to drop it part of the way through. Some super squicky, gross May-December type shit going on there and I was very hesitant to read this one because of it. But here we are! The story moved slow in some parts but I was pretty taken with most of the characters so that made up for it. Definitely going to continue on with Book #2.

Avry is a healer who is in hiding after the healers have been unjustly blamed for the plague which has devastated the world. Now she has been saved from death by a group led by Kerrick, but what they ask for in return may be more than she can give. Avry is a selfless but passionate person who is very easy to connect to and Kerrick whilst cold at the start grows into a brilliant hero in this novel. While similar in some aspects to Poison Study it is still magnificent book which every fantasy fan should read.

Being a HUGE fan of Maria V. Snyder I was jumping at the chance to get my hands on Touch of Power as soon as I heard that it was coming out! & luckily thanks to NetGalley and Mira I got the chance to read the eARC!
Maria never disappoints me with her writing, her worlds are always fantastic and blow me away with all the amazing detail, and not to mention the plot and the amazing characters that always manage to suck me in, capturing me in their grasp and making me not want to let go when I arrive at the last page.
A lot of people have been telling me that Kerrick was a lot like Valek from Maria's Study series, but I think that I have to disagree with them there, of course Kerrick had the massive yummy value that Valek had, and even though they were both awesome kick ass characters, that would protect the people they cared about with everything in their power, they are both very different and complex individual's in their own right and I love them both to pieces because of it!
Avry was a brilliant character, she was kind, smart and very funny, her witty lines and sarcasm had me giggling for the entire duration of the book. Especially her conflict with Kerrick and the scenes they had together....wow (so much tension). I really loved how she hated him so much at the start of the book and we all get to witness with each page as her feelings for Kerrick slowly grow into something much more.
I've already mention that Maria has amazing characters, and I'll clarify that doesn't only apply to the main characters, Maria manages to make you fall in love with the side characters also, even if they don't play such a huge role in the book they manage to take a piece of your heart with them, especially Papa Bear and Flea... loved them so much, but once again I loved them all!
I loved the idea with the Death and Peace Lillie's (man eating flowers!), I thought that the idea was nice and original and can't wait to find out more about them in book two!
I love a well written bad guy, and Tohon had the right amount of creepy mixed with freaky, he's really smart and has hidden secrets and crazy evil plots up to his eyeballs, I can't wait to find out more about him and his evil doings in future books!
Maria V. Snyder is one of my favourite authors of all time, I love her books and will continue to read them obsessively, I hope that I've convinced you to give her amazing talent a try if you haven't already! (Was so hard to keep this review spoiler free as I want to gush and discuss theories with everyone!)

DNF (asi budem odteraz pisat recenzie aj v SJ aj v ENG)
- English below -
Vsetci ju tam len zachranovali, vsetci jej kazali co ma robit a ona stale len prikyvla a vsetko urobila.

Had to DNF it because I hated that the love interest hit the protagonist. And I guess it would be different if they would be fighting or something but she just said something he didn't like and he hit her. And she said nothing. She was so... so infuriating. She literally had no opinions and she did nothing. Everyone else had to save her. And she never did anything out of her mind, she always listened to someone else's orders. I knew this is not for me from the point when they tell her she cannot have knives because from now on they are going to take care of her because she is precious. And I hated that. And I hated that she let them. But I loved the idea and plot more than Poison Study so I am sad I couldn't finish it. I did read 40% of the book and jumped to the end to see how it would end and maybe I will eventually finish the book but at this point I just don't want to.

I loved it. This is just my kind of story. I stayed up pretty late on a couple of nights in order to get as far into it as I could. I love the way Ms. Snyder writes. She's discriptive without being flowery, where often you are dragged through three chapters of world-building discriptives when starting a fantasy, and I don't know about everyone else, but sometimes I don't have the patience to hear about how there was a crumb in the kitchen corner or for a paragraph about how the grass smelled...With this book you don't have to worry too much about that kind of thing.
I also loved the relationships between the characters. The characters themselves were also pretty well developed, and Avry is a character that you can find every reason to rout for.
