So, didn't give this one much of a chance. A lot of people will like it, I'm sure. But we've got a pretty 20 year old girl who's a healer (except she was only 17 when she stopped her training) who is too caring to preserve her own life if there's a child in danger. Felt Mary Sue to me. Especially after she's rescued by a group of guys, all of whom I can see will fall in love with her. No speaking female characters other than our heroine so far.
I liked the start of the world we were seeing. It was after a plague that killed 2/3 of the world's population- could be some interesting things to work with that. But other than mentions of possible exotic plants and animals, the world is not fully drawn as much as her "Study" series was.
Again, though, I didn't give it too much of a chance. I put the book down after the main character's love interest (it's obvious) slaps her in the face and knocks her to the ground after she disobeys him. Okay, that's enough for me. I don't care if he redeems himself. I don't care if her love can save him. That's not cool, and not romantic, and I'm not rooting for or reading more about that couple.

Really awesome book. Trying to find book #2. Avry and Kerrick were to die for.
I love how Avry is so bada**. Kerrick is quite annoying at the beginning. Still not sure how and when they fell for each other, but I guess opposites attract.

Very similar to poison study. Had the cold brooding emotionally unavailable guy and had the two doofy twin friends. The magic was interesting and so were other aspects of the setting. Plot was predictable but exactly what I wanted from this type of book. Not complex. Didn't like that there weren't that many main female characters.
I've been handing out stars left and right and this book wasn't very good so no stars for it
Got to 32% before I decided I'd rather gouge my own eyes out.
Absolutely love this series. just finished my audiobook re-read and still adore the dynamic between the group as a whole. I'm typically not a found family trope enjoyer but this is one of the few books that I feel does it so well and so believable.
