This book totally absorbed me. It was an easy read and I loved the characters. I usually have a hard time keeping track in my head when there's multiple factions but the leaders of each faction were given a memorable personality which helped me keep track of them. The love aspect was a bit cliche but I'm a hopeless romantic so I loved it anyway. I look forward to reading the next book.

The 4 star is really a 4.5 :D

Okay, so to start, Maria is my all-time favorite author and the Study series is one of my favorite series ever. That being said, this book was amazing, but nothing can live up to Poison Study!

Without comparing it, "Touch" was fantastic with only 2 issues that jump out at me: 1) "My dear" was over used by Tohon. I get that he is a psychopath with a "God-complex" but it was hard to read "my dear" so often. He sounded like he had a stutter. Though the affectionate term worked for him and for the reasons he was using it, but it still felt funny to read it so often. 2) The travel sections of the book seemed strange to me. I am so used to having the trip explained out (sorry, comparison!) and in this one it was description of a few days then "three days later" quite often. I felt as though I was on fast-forward. But, thankfully, that was consistent in book so I caught onto the rhythm quickly.

All that aside, I am already diving into book 2 and I am so excited to see where this goes! I keep thinking that this is all before the Study books and some how this will connect, but I don't think that this is where it is going (it would be really cool though!). I am also looking forward to seeing how the Peace and Death Lily's come into play during the course of the series, I think they might be my favorite parts of the book! They are so strange and interesting!

This series is, when you look at it, a carbon copy of the Poison Study. And it's not a bad thing. I quite enjoyed Poison Study, and the style of writing. But ultimately the plot and characters let me down. This is good, because it was almost the same format but better. I much prefered the world building in this book, and the characters were a lot better. I had forgotten as well how much I loved the use of magic in these books. The system is wonderful, and it really flows naturally with the story.

The plot was pretty good, but some characters were still a bit dodgy. I didn't really enjoy the writing of romance and feeling, but that could just be a personal thing. I thought they could have been developed more.

The use of the Lilies as a plot device is brilliant. IT;s again something I haven't seen before, simple yet completely original, and detrimental to the entire plot of the trilogy.

This book was far from perfect, but I did enjoy it. The writing style, flow and magic system made it worth my while. Certainty a guilty pleasure read.

More a 3.5 star - simply because i guessed too much of the plot line waaaay too early on.
But I did love it. I enjoyed almost every second of it, actually.
Funny, unique, wonderful characters and a really interesting premiss.
I will most definetely read the sequel!

So good!

The kind of book I can't stop reading, and yet, that I don't want to end.
Can't wait for book 2!

I enjoyed this book, but I didn't love it like I loved Poison Study. The characters and their relationship actually reminded me a lot of those in Poison Study, which made this feel a bit like the same book with a different plot/different magic, but it was still a fun read. I did feel like some of the characters sounded a bit too modern in their speech pattern at times, which was a bit distracting. I also wish more had been made out of how not okay Tohon's behavior towards Avry was. In a lot of ways he actually reminded me of the villain in Graceling. In fact, I think this book probably suffered because I was comparing it to both Poison Study and Graceling. I'd still recommend it to YA fantasy fans though, and I thought Avry was a great heroine.

So. Bloody. Amazing.

I felt like I was with Avry the whole time. I was totally depressed when Flea died but luckily I managed to move on with life (still hurts like hell though). I certainly love everything in this book and I believe my hangover would probably last till the next few weeks. Or months. JK I can't wait to get my hands on the next book which would be after I finish this review hahah.
