After reading Miss Snyder's Inside Out series I knew that her Healer series would have me growing attached but I didn't expect how much. Going from the Inside Out series and into the Healer series you can see the different in the lucidity of writing. Touch of Power is a beautiful tale of adventure, love, sarcasm, and kickass characters that will hold your attention for hours on end.

Entering into the novel you meet Avry, a healer during the times of a plague within the land of the Fifteen Realms, who is to be captured and killed for assumption towards her vocation being a harbinger of the plague that sweeps the land. From there she is rescued by a band of men in dire need of a healer to save a man who could save them from impending doom.

The distinctive properties of the healing in the book was intriguing for when Avry goes about completing her deeds, that who is healed leaves scot-free while Avry is left to tend to the wounds that she absorbed whether malignant or benign. The development of Avry and her choice to go through such torturous healing (obtaining scars and fevers and remain unconscious for days), and put her life on the line for the very men who begin to pull her heartstrings.

The action within this had stationed my attention for hours, never letting me leave the story, or even my room for that matter. I wanted to know what happened next. I wanted to watch the characters grow. I read and read and read until the very end, one that left me with a warm heart and anticipation for a sequel that brings Avry and Kerrick and the boys back into my life in the new year.

Before Touch of Power I had never heard of Maria V Snyder and after reading it I can say I’m already a fan and can’t wait to dive into her other books. Touch of Power was a fast paced and enthralling book.

We start by meeting Avry who has been on the run for 3 years as one of the last remaining healers. The healers were blamed for the plague forcing them all into hiding though most didn’t even make it that far before people started killing them. The world around Avry has been slowly destroyed by the plague, but soon she is kidnapped by a group of guys trying to help their Prince who is stuck in stasis and dying of the plague.

Before I am tempted tell you the entire plot line I’m going to share what I loved about this book. When I say it was fast paced i literally mean it seemed like something new was happening every couple pages. It felt as though there was never a spot of “well this boring, but it gets me to the next good part.” The world building was built into the story telling really nicely as well as far as explaining the magic and what happened to the world goes. I will say that the romance in this is rather light and this book revolves mostly around world building and creating the plot for the next book. Don’t take that as a bad thing though because the narrative in this book is great and really well done.

Overall 4/5 Stars. I really think this is a great book for anyone who wants to read an engaging story. Definitely well worth the cash.

This book was good! I would say 3.5 stars. It isn't Poison Study but it still works well. I have always been a fan of books based around Healing Magic and this one is definitey a good read (read it in a day). But there are a few things that I found that didn't work out as best as it could have but it does work.
1) the relationship between Avry and Kerrick didn't seem real enough. Not enough emotion there i think
2)the characters needed a little more involvement
3) I wanna know more about the lilies! but that is probably just a waiting game really. /sigh
4) its a little too simular to her other works (even the map looks simular but I am going from memory here) in the finer details at least (with the exception of the Avry/kerrick relationship)
5) Their passage through the world was a little too easy
other than that, the book was fairly fast paced and kept you wanting to read more. Yes I did have issues with it but I think those issues shouldnt keep you from reading it as I did enjoy it. I think it is more so a problem with the way books are forced to be written these days, YA people can't sit and read through a single character development chapter because we all have ADD and what not. Things have to flow and flow fast cause a single eddy with force us to put the book down and go watch the big flickering box. I could be wrong but that is just the feeling I get when I read YA fiction.

Kp

A really nice start of another fantasy series. I would like to rate 4,5 stars.
It is really nice but to be honest nothing really amazing new and no big surprising twist. Therefore I am not sure what number 2 and 3 will bring (more kind-of-known-but-nice-storyline or some major twist)?

Still a clear advice to read for all new-to-fantasy and old fantasy-fans searching for a good, sweet, funny book.

Maria V. Snyder never fails to amaze me. Her characters hold such complexities, undergo such intense problems, and she never leaves the reader a chance to get bored.

This was a great read!! Im not a big reader but this one had everything I love all rolled in one. It had Romance, magic, action, and humor. No joke this book way funny from start to finish. I wont give any spoilers but Flea and Belen are just the funniest and Avry and Kazan are a bit slow at first but they grow on you and in the end your rooting for them to happen. All I can say is that I can't wait to read the other two books in this series.
