like a rehashing of crown duel, but not as interesting. =\

I really enjoy Sherwood Smith's characters. Since I know her formula, I wasn't really surprised at who turned out to be good and bad, but it was fun anyway.

It took a while for me to get into the characters - possibly because the first couple of chapters follows a character who has lost all her memories, and so has no idea who she is or what is going on. They all grew on me - I was particularly happy to have so much of the book devoted to the friendship between two very different young women - and I came to look forward to the denouement.

Even if they were mostly background figures, I was happy to see some interesting queer characters included in the story.

It had some weaknesses, but overall it was very enjoyable. Like most romances, the ending was a little weak.
