Comprehensive overview of most prominent female figures of different greek myths and stories. The author provides a perception of each from perspectives of various artists - ancient as well as current ones, which shows off that some stigmas are more common than the others. I particularly enjoyed the analysis of woman involved in Illiad/Odyssey - and their complexity, uniqness and compatibility to the story.

sometimes by the end of the introduction of a book you know you're going to give it 5 stars. this book has recaptured me in my childhood obsession of greek mythology, and provided brilliant and thought provoking analysis and alternate interpretations of stories I thought I knew well, and ones I didn't know at all. Haynes' passion for the subject material shines through in every sentence, and I enjoyed both her wit and righteous anger in turn. this may be the best book I've read this year so far, and I can't wait to reread it in the future!

Natalie Haynes steps through a collection of women from Greek mythology recounting their various representations while analyzing their stories and criticizing some depections as she goes. A great overview of the often overlooked women in some of the best known stories. Haynes's style incorporates a touch of humor and personality into the lush descriptions of the myths, giving this an almost conversational feel at times.
