Though I don't read a lot of nonfiction, I found this one to be very enjoyable. Not only does it have a conversational tone, it also shares bits of Greek mythology I hadn't read before. The author also compares and contrasts these myths as they are told between different poets and playwrights: Ovid, Homer, Pseudo-Apollodorus, Euripides, etc. It makes for a more in-depth look at the women that often get pushed to the background. I'd gladly read more nonfiction from this particular author and look forward to trying her works of fiction, too.

Overall I really liked this!!!!! I learned so much. Euripidies is my main bitch. There were sometimes I thought Haynes went on a tangent for a bit too long, especially in Phaedra’s chapter. I don’t feel like I learned as much about her as the others. But for the most part I found the tangents and anecdotes informative and interesting!!

You really can’t get much better than Natalie Haynes. Witty, biting, brutally smart analysis of myth’s most misunderstood (or not) women and all the bonus points for a Buffy appearance
