“Weak is a ruler who holds a match to the world and then blames it for burning.”
This is a duology finale, so I will keep it short to avoid spoilers.
If you love angst, political plotting and complicated worlds inspired by Egyptian mythology, you need to read this duology! I really enjoyed this sequel and felt like Hashem kept up the pressure and tension she built in the first book (although this one did feel a bit slower). I loved the inclusion of more POV characters and getting to see different storylines working together. This truly is a grand romantasy with true enemies to lovers and fantastic platonic relationships. I knew this book would break my heart and I was not wrong. That’s all I’ll say about that…
I think Sara Hashem did something great with this duology and I can’t wait to see what she writes in the future!
Finally, a quote I enjoyed:
“Life does not allow you opportunities to travel down every path, to see the outcome of every choice. You can spend your entire existence frozen in one spot, squinting into the future, or you can decide to move. Pick a path and never look back.”

I finished the scorched throne duology & I am NOT okay 😭 this was a beautifully written story with one heck of a bitter sweet ending 🥹😩 I absolutely did not want to say goodbye to these characters. The world building, character development, tension, banter, political strategy, and found family in these books were extremely well written. Essiya’s story is one of grief, perseverance, selflessness, community, friendship, and love. I will miss her forever 😭

I enjoyed the Jasad Heir, but this book didn’t work for me. The middle really dragged. I almost DNF’d at page 400. This book took me weeks to finish and I’m usually a very fast reader. At points I was dreading reading it. I think the story needed more editing. At 658 pages, it needs to be very tight to earn needing that many pages. The political side of the story at times because confusing and boring. Having chapters from Marek and Sefa’s pov dragged things down. I’m not sure if this book was trying to be fantasy, fantasy romance, or romantasy, but it didn’t really work for me. In the end, the only main character I could truly follow their motivations was Arin and he was not the main character in the first book. Also, I got very tired of the miscommunication/no communication trope between all the characters. Just talk to each other!

It’s been so long since I let a book affect me, I’m not doing well, I’m not doing well at all
He waited 10y, HE WAITED FOR TEN YEARS, HE VISITED THE FORTRESS FOR 10Y, fucking hell
people get heartbroken from being in love, i collect mine like Pokémon by reading books

The first book in this series was a decent and fun read that included everything I typically enjoy about fantasy epic stories with a hint of romance. Book two, for me, was entirely too long-winded, included povs that I personally don't think were at all necessary, and telegraphed the ending far too much. It's a reasonable conclusion to the story, thus the 3 star rating, but was still a let down after the first installment of the duology.
