A low 4 stars but a 4 star read nevertheless. It was easy getting invested in the case and flew by as I needed to know what was going on. On of the more intense read I've read recently. Crime novels involving cases that sounds satanic is both creepy and hard to put done if it's done right

Pretty good. A little slow in places but I think he'll get better as it goes. First books can be that way some times. Liked the characters but wish they were a little more fleshed out. Weird little plot but I had an inkling how it was going at the end.

It is quite enjoyable to hear all the Iowa references and landmarks since I currently live in Iowa. But beyond that, this was a very enjoyable suspense/police novel. I was referred by a friend and I am excited to read more of Mr. Harstad's books!

A little violent and disturbing but this is one of the best best raw countryside procedural thrillers I've read. Harstad was a cop himself and it shows in his writing. Detailed and engaging yet extremely believable scenarios. The way he introduces tension in a remote countryside and gathers momentum, you will find it difficult to put it down. Harstad can create tension even in a simple scene where two 'harmless' people are having coffee.
I loved it and recommend to all those who wants to read a taut and engaging book.
