Hearts of Stone: Star-Crossed by Velora Venn is a captivating and imaginative sci-fi romance that introduces us to a dystopian world where humans, goyles, and mandracals coexist in a precarious balance. The story follows Sakura, a mandracal who has lost her memory and identity, and Sylvan, a goyle who vows to protect her from the dangers of the city. Their relationship blossoms as they discover more about themselves and their roles in a larger conflict that threatens their planet. The book is well-written and engaging, with vivid descriptions, intriguing characters, and a fast-paced plot. The author also includes some beautiful artwork that enhances the reading experience. I enjoyed the blend of cyberpunk, fantasy, and romance elements, as well as the themes of redemption, loyalty, and courage. **This is not my usual genre, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book.** I would recommend it to fans of Gargoyles, and Arcane. I give it 4 stars out of 5 and look forward to reading the next volume in the series.
