I recently read this book for the first time. I really enjoyed it. It has the classical feel of a children's fairytale (a series of small adventures). I was surprised how different it was from the movie! Gasp*! What a shock! the book is different from the movie! The Good Witch from the North is fat! Over all an enjoyable read.

This was a cute fun paced read. I loved how it brought me back to when I first heard of the wizard of oz.

These first fives tales are surely whimsical and, yes, a touch weird. The strength is definitely in the characters and world created.

This is a beautiful edition, including W.W. Denslow's original 24 full color plates and 130 two-color illustrations integrated with the text.

I did not like this book at all and needless to say it disappointed me to no end. I entered this book expecting to be enchanted by the wonderful world of Oz and charmed by the characters but what I got was the most bizarre world that I ever read about the blandest of characters. Our protagonist, Dorothy was the dullest and most boring character that I ever read about, she was utterly clueless and it was only by sheer luck that she managed to accomplish anything in this book and that annoyed me immensely.

Another thing that really bothered me was
Spoilerthe fact that Oz was not really a wizard and was a fraud all along, I was expecting him to be this wonderful, magical wizard and what I got was a magicless old man.
Throughout this book Dorothy met some other people who joined her on her quest to find Oz because each one of them want him to grand them something; a heart, a brain and courage. One could not help but notice that they all possessed what they needed but just refused to believe it and would expect for them to realize that by the end of the story but nooooo, they needed magic to give them what they already have because they refuse to acknowledge that they have had them all along; now what kind of massage does that send.

All in all, I enjoyed a few moments but not enough for this book to do it for me; I have heard that the movie is much better so I might check that out someday.

What a queer little book!
I never read or watched this story before so I didn't actually know the plot very well and it's was a bit of a bizarre experience. A lot of dead creatures along the way, including two witches and like 50 wolves.
I don't actually want to start tearing the plot apart because it's an ancient children's book but what a random story most of the time.
