Jane & Richard are a fabulous fake relationship turned unbearable love. Watching them fight their emotions was both endless torture and delightful bliss. I love the sense of purpose amidst the women of this series. Jane’s school and her determination with the children is admirable. Proving that kids can have a place in romance. Jane’s students are the perfect example of how the simple mind of a child can help make things clear. How often they see things with more clarity than an adult and their participation in bringing Jane & Richard together was really adorable. I was genuinely rooting for these two throughout it all. They both had that bruised heart feel that won you over instantly. The audio read by Shane East and Justine Eyre is done in such an immersive way that you’ll feel you’re watching it in your mind. Their voices are so expressive and easy on the ears. A truly fabulous story!

I received this as an arc from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

This was a fantastic historical romance. It was a well written story and it had a great flow. It was the second book in the series and it was just as good as the first. Jane and Richard did not have a love at first sight romance but they were forced by circumstances to fake it. I loved their way to get a HEA and hope that Calliope will get hers next.

I usually only like the first book in a standalone series, but I was delighted to read this one and realise it was just as good as the first one. It had interesting characters, heartfelt emotions, scandalous (for the time) smut, and a mystery that is still slowly being unravelled. Great work! I can't wait to read the third book soon.

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy.

A very intense book, with some angst, especially for the poor hero, who’s already suffered for heartbreak in the past and now falls quite hard for the heroine. Our heroine here is smart and caring and idealistic, but not as bold as I would have liked. Of course it is all due to her background, but she should have stood up for herself more, in my opinion.
As for the plot, the mystery regarding the duke’s disappearance continues, but it’s all well explained here, so the book can be read as a standalone. I really hope they’ll find it alive and well at the end!
I really loved the “bad boys” of the story, so charismatic and intriguing, and I hope they’ll all have their own books!
The only downside of the book is its length. In my opinion it dragged a bit at the end and I would have trimmed it to give it a faster pace.
That said, it’s a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the following books of the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
