DNF’d around page 40. The juvenile writing style and cringy inner monologue just wasn’t for me.

This book caught me off guard. I knew that this was a BATB re-telling but I did NOT know how SPICY it was going to be! I love spice but this series has a LOT of spice! The characters in this book are all very sexual and there is spice in pretty much every chapter.

Outside of the spice factor, the story line pretty much follows what most would expect from A Beauty & The Beast re-telling...the main characters, Nyfain & Finley, the curse, the captivity, the banter, the sexual tension, etc. I did find that the MC's reluctance to admit feelings for each other was a bit annoying but not surprising. I was a little underwhelmed by the ending because I flipped the page and said, "Is that it?" but I definitely picked up the second book to pick up where the first left off!

I did like the book and the story is predictable (thus a re-telling) but I feel like the actual story took a back seat to all of the smut. Don't get me wrong, I still read the book and read the next two very quickly and I enjoy reading sexy books but I would have enjoyed a bit more plot in this book.

I really wanted to love this book so much more than I did. I’m a sucker for a good beauty and the beast retelling. But I just had so many issues with it.
Ultimately I gave it three stars because I really did enjoy the story, the dynamic between the love interest and herself, and the underlying plot. I also plan to read the next ones because I absolutely need to know what happens.
What I couldn’t stand was the MC’s internal dialogue. I spent the first 25% of this book absolutely hating everything she said. Her interactions were so inconsistent that I couldn’t figure out what type of character she was. Something would happen and I would get sucked back into the story, and then she would have an internal conversation with an imaginary audience (wtf is with that) and I remembered how much I couldn’t stand her.
And don’t get me started on the swearing.
I love swearing, I use a plethora of swearwords on a regular basis. But the swearing in this book was like you gave an 11-year-old a list of swear words but didn’t tell them how to use any of them. It was so painful to listen to.
At the end of the day, she hooked me with the plot, enemies to lovers, and smut, but I’m still going to live the rest of my life hating this MC.
