Thought-provoking book written in a unique style. I much appreciated the use of direct address, something different from other novels. Having said that, the book did not grip me or let such an emotional impact as other books about a similar topic - it was very average - hence the three stars.
this book doesn't even deserve one star. I cannot put into words how terrible, and boring, and soul-destroying this 'book' was. it's pretty tragic when the only character you care about is the camel. this is definitely in the top five worst books I've ever read.
I was recommended this book by a friend and I’m so glad she told me to read it! I was engaged the entire time and I loved to read about a place I had never been to before.
Someone else has already said this, but Lucy Christopher is a brilliant author and knows exactly how to write a character that we, as readers, are supposed to hate but can’t help but like them, too. In the end, it’s hard not to sympathize with Ty, but what he did was wrong, without a doubt. And I’m so glad Gemma knows this in the end. Like Gemma says, if they could have only met later in life and not when she was still a minor. He would have just been a stalker, which is a lot better than being a kidnapper. The ending was perfect for the book and it makes you realize just how smart and self-aware the main character is, which isn’t the case in most YA novels.

This book is a great representation of Stockholm Syndrome.
I wanted Ty to let Gemma go, and then I wanted Gemma to give Ty a chance and see his perspective?! They were both complex characters, but ty was disturbed.
I love that this story is like one huge recollection/letter to her captor, and Gemma's will to fight was written clearly.
Tys character was ultimately bad, but his character was more complex. He did nice and sweet things for her, but he didn't go about showing his feelings the right way, but especially to a teenager!? Hate hate hate hate hate that!! Bro stalked her since she was a child and then pulled the ultimate creep move by kidnapping her

This was probably the scariest book I've ever read.
Huh. I definitely think this was overhyped but I couldn’t stop reading it.
